Background

John Derre was a medic attached to the Department of Homeland Security when he responded to a terrorist attack in Boston harbor. As one of the first members on the scene, he found a dying hero fallen right outside a burning warehouse. While attempting to administer first aid, the costumed hero died in his arms, but not before the hero transferred the consciousness of a Kheldian symbiote calling itself Carrantus into Mr. Derre.

The DHS often works closely with Freedom Corps, and especially with the Star Patrol; when Derre’s powers began to manifest, they allowed the Star Patrol’s special operations division recruit him and teach him how to work with the new consciousness inside his soul. Special Agent Derre is still learning how to work with the symbiote, and has the odd conversational quirk of referring to himself in the plural.

Tactics

Special Agent Derre prefers to work in a support capacity – he is well aware of his inexperience and his relative fragility. He prefers to stay in his normal (human) form when not in combat, but to morph into his various alien forms when in a dangerous environment. His background training as a medic motivates him to serve as a surrogate “Team Dad,” looking out for teammates’ safety when working with other Star Patrol agents.
