Background

Although far from truly wealthy, the Kung family was prosperous enough to maintain a home in Eastgate Bay until after the Rikti war and subsequent “hollowing” of the neighborhood. The Kung family moved to Croatoa to live with Dust Raven’s grandfather. The turmoil of having his home destroyed followed by the chaos of living in an area haunted by ghosts and plagued by creatures from the faerie realm likely contributed to Dust Raven’s irreverent and often derisive attitude.

Shortly after Dust Raven turned 16 he started to manifest the ability to project his thoughts into reality. First this occurred while dreaming, which caused quite a bit of trouble at first without anyone realizing the cause. Eventually he was taken aside by his grandfather who revealed a few family secrets.

Dust Raven’s grandfather was a member of the Midnight Squad and possessed powers of illusion similar to his own, only far more powerful. Dust Raven seemed to have inherited his grandfather’s powers. His grandfather insisted Dust Raven receive training not only in the use of his powers, but in when and why to use them. Not wanting to expose his grandson directly to the Midnight Squad and not having time himself to give proper instruction, Dust Raven was entrusted to the members of Star Patrol.

Although still too young to officially join, Dust Raven was accepted as a probationary member of Star Patrol. While his association with the supergroup was primarily to provide him with training, it was also to keep the teenager out of trouble. The latter was only partially successful. Fortunately the trouble caused resulted in the arrest of several Skulls, the destruction of a warehouse full of Clockwork and the foiling of the attempted robbery of two banks.

In October of 2008, Dust Raven turned 18 and became an official member of Star Patrol and was awarded the rank of Captain. Shortly thereafter he also joined the Midnight Squad and is Star Patrol’s primary contact with them.

Dust Raven’s given name is Chen Ya, which almost directly translates to “Dust Raven”, which is the name he uses among his English speaking (or non-Mandarin speaking) friends, although many simply call him Raven.

Tactics

Dust Raven is an Illusion/Kinetics Controller. He prefers to keep his distance from any and all enemies but has no fear of getting up close and personal. When alone he prefers to use a divide and conquer style in which he blinds as many opponents as possible while leading others away, or by creating illusionary decoys to provide him with cover. In a team he focuses more on manipulating his foes, sapping their health, strength and speed and transferring it to his allies, and augmenting his allies abilities with subtle illusions which boost their confidence.
