John McTavish was always a quiet, bright, though somewhat sickly child. It wasn’t until puberty that his mutant ability to control gravitational forces emerged, and strangely enough, his general health also vastly improved.

After college, he joined the Freedom Corps and later helped found the nascent elite branch, Star Patrol, though his aloof and vindictive nature made him a somewhat unpopular team mate. It wasn’t until an incident involving several drug-crazed gang members that real personality defects became apparent; he was caught in the act of crushing several of them to bloody pulps, having already killed several. He was subdued, tests were run… and the full truth about his mutation was discovered: he feeds on the pain experienced by sentient beings, particularly when inflicted by himself. Imprisoned in Ziggursky Prison for murder, he was released in an Arachnos raid and founded the villain group Nova Dominion.
